R started Clomid

We decided to start with R taking Clomid to see if that would help increase his sperm count. He’s taking 25 mg/day (the normal dose when they prescribe it for women is 50, so he’s just taking 1/2 pill per day), which will cost us around $60/month. Something I should point out is that our insurance paid for 100% of our infertility testing to diagnose the problem, but anything after that is completely out of pocket. I also have him taking a One-a-Day multi-vitamin and Fertility Blend for men (an OTC medication that is said to help increase sperm count).

We’re going to schedule our first IUI in December after he’s been taking this for 3 months. The way our RE explained it to us was after three months they’ll want to repeat a SA on him to see if his numbers are up, at that point they can go ahead and do a SA rather than having him produce another sample at a later date. The month we’ll have our SA they’ll have me on medications too and a shot to induce ovulation so that they can time the IUI just right.

  1. Another supplement that is good for men (which my RE was going to prescribe to my husband) is CoQ-10.

Best wishes for you and your hubby!

    • Yes, I have heard that before…thanks for the suggestion. We actually did try it for 3 months a few months back, but now maybe in conjunction with the Chlomid it may work better? I’m not sure….the only problem with taking Chlomid, FertilityBlend for Men, and possibly another is in 3 months if the numbers are better it’s really hard to say what was helping….or maybe it was just the combo all along.

      Thanks, I really appreciate it!

      • this is true! I wasn’t sure if you’d heard about it (I didn’t know what it was… or any of the meds we’ve come across since starting this fertility rollercoaster lol), so I thought I’d mention it 🙂

        Wishing you all the best!
